The New York Times. A name synonymous with heritage, outstanding journalism and internationally renown. It has won 112 Pulitzer Prizes, more than any other news organization and its website is one of America’s most popular news sites, and the most popular among all the nation’s newspapers. Their current app for iPad follows the same style set by the website which, in turn, follows the timeless design set by the newspaper. Focusing on great typography combined with their immediately recognisable logo, the New York Times more often than not gets it right by presenting news in a clear and concise way without the need to over-simply with images or other content.
Steve Fraschini‘s take on a new-look NYT app is a radical shift away from the style of the current app, or any previous designs. Focusing much more on the visual aspect rather than typographic, this version presents the information in a gorgeous HD manner with imagery, typography and a great list of features showing off the quality NYT is known for.
